About Hand Picked Selections
Hand Picked Selections is an independent national wine merchant, selling
through 42 distributors in 37 states. Hand Picked Selections retail
network will offer wine on line this year in 29 states. In 28 of these
sales are through privately owned stores, in Pennsylvania through the
state-owned wine specialty shops. Where legal, our retailers will deliver
or ship to your door. In markets where delivery is not legal, many of
our retailers will pack your order in advance to save you time when
you pick up.
Today you can buy a book, a blanket or a car on-line as easily as
a loaf of bread in the supermarket. Buying wine on-line is different.
When Congress repealed Prohibition, they allowed each state to make
their own laws about beverage alcohol sales so that states could choose
to remain dry. They didn't intend to set up a patchwork of 50 sets
of laws governing wine sales, but that is what happened. Some states
have reciprocal laws about shipping wine, some don't. Some states
permit shipment, others local delivery, others no delivery at all.
To those of you inconvenienced, we offer our regrets.
Hand Picked Selections has always emphasized moderately priced wines
to encourage Americans to consume it more often… not in greater
quantities on each occasion, just more occasions.
The heart of our Website is the HPS ‘Top 40’. This list
of 40 wines meets consumer’s needs for almost all everyday and
most special occasions. Please browse through the list and click on
the wines that sound interesting. We give tasting notes, reviews and
food pairings. Most of our retailers keep a large stock, but it is
not possible for every store to stock every wine. If your retailer
does not have a wine you want from our 'Top 40', it will take a few
days to a few weeks to bring it in from our East and West Coast warehouses.
We are proud of our selections of domestic and more expensive wines.
For 14 years consumers in increasing numbers have enjoyed Hand Picked
Selections. We offer truly fine wines at store prices. Please join
us in a glass. |
